Md. Jalil Piran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea. He received his Ph.D. in Electronics and Information Engineering from Kyung Hee University in 2016 and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the university's Networking Laboratory, where he further strengthened his research profile in intelligent communication and data-driven systems.

Professor Piran is a leading researcher at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, with sustained, high-impact contributions reflected in extensive publications across premier international journals and conferences. His research spans " Machine Learning and Deep Learning , Big Data Analytics , the Internet of Things , and Cybersecurity , with a consistent emphasis on scalable, intelligent, and data-centric system design for real-world applications.

In addition to his research, Prof. Piran stands as an international academic citizen of the highest order, demonstrated by his long-standing and diverse service to the global community.  His contributions encompass journal editorial responsibilities, IEEE technical leadership , conference organization and chairing , and extensive reviewing activities for journals and conferences. He also regularly serves as a referee for international research project proposals and as an external examiner for doctoral and master's theses worldwide.

He currently serves as Editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence , and has held Guest Editor roles for leading venues including IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics , IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics , and IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine . As Vice-Chair of the IEEE Consumer Technology Society Technical Committee on Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and AI in Consumer Electronics , he actively contributes to shaping research directions and professional activities within the field. His conference leadership includes Track Chair at IEEE ICCE 2024, Session Chair at IEEE ICC 2022, and Technical Committee Member for several major international conferences.

Professor Piran is a trusted reviewer for top-tier journals and conferences published by IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, and other major academic publishers. He is frequently invited to evaluate competitive international research funding proposals and to serve as an external examiner for graduate theses and dissertations, reflecting broad recognition of his technical expertise and scholarly judgment.

Widely recognized for his thought leadership, Prof. Piran is a sought-after keynote and invited speaker at international conferences and universities, where he delivers lectures on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and next-generation communication systems. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and represented South Korea as an active delegate to the ISO/IEC MPEG standardization body from 2014 to 2017, contributing to the development of global multimedia standards.

His academic achievements have been recognized through multiple honors, including the Research " Excellence Professor Award " from Sejong University in 2025, the " Scientist Medal of the Year" from the International Association of Advanced Materials in 2017, the " Outstanding Emerging Researcher  Award" from the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, and the " Dissertation of the Year Award" in Engineering in 2016 from the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research.
